TAMPA (BLOOM) - Dessert Wars: The Largest Dessert Festival in America
Joining Gayle Guyardo on the global health and wellness show, Bloom, Meghan Parsons, the owner of Meghan's Macarons, shared her experience competing in Dessert Wars, the largest dessert festival in America, on "Window to the Weekend" sponsored by Renewal by Andersen of Tampa.
Dessert Wars will take place tomorrow, from 3-7 pm, at the Florida State Fairgrounds. This event travels to 8 different cities and hosts a National Championship in October, which will take place in Charlotte. In every city, the Top 3 People's Choice and Top 3 Judges Champ are determined, and those 6 competitors automatically qualify for the National Championship, where they will compete for $20,000.
Started in Miami in 2016, Dessert Wars has grown enormously, with Tampa being the 6th stop on the 2024 tour. Fans in attendance will receive sample tickets, a go-box, and a voting token. There is no cost for anything once you enter the event. Fans will use their voting token to vote at the Voting Wall to determine the People's Choice champ.

Meghan's Macarons Recipe
Indulge in the sweet taste of Meghan's Macarons with this easy recipe.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup almond flour
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 3 large egg whites, room temperature
- 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional)
Directions:
- Preheat oven to 300°F and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
- In a food processor, pulse the almond flour and powdered sugar together for a few seconds until combined.
- In a mixing bowl, beat the egg whites and cream of tartar together using an electric mixer until frothy.
- Gradually add the granulated sugar and continue beating until stiff peaks form.
- Add the vanilla and food coloring (optional) and mix until combined.
- Using a spatula, gently fold in the almond flour and sugar mixture into the egg whites in small increments. Only fold until just combined - do not overmix.
- Transfer the mixture to a pastry bag fitted with a round tip and pipe small circles onto the prepared baking sheets.
- Tap the baking sheets on the countertop to get rid of any air bubbles. Let the macarons sit for 30 minutes to an hour before baking.
- Bake the macarons for 15-18 minutes, rotating the baking sheets halfway through the baking time.
- Remove the macarons from the oven and let them cool completely before removing them from the baking sheets.
- Match the macarons by size and sandwich two together with a filling of your choice (buttercream, jam, ganache, etc.).
