Ingredients

  • 1 cup moong dal, soaked for at least 3 hours
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon red chili powder
  • Salt to taste
  • Oil or ghee for cooking

Directions

  1. Drain the soaked moong dal and blend it with water in a blender until you get a smooth batter. Add water little by little as needed. The batter should have a pouring consistency.
  2. Add cumin powder, coriander powder, red chili powder, and salt to the batter. Mix well.
  3. Heat a non-stick griddle over medium heat. Grease it lightly with oil or ghee.
  4. Pour a ladleful of batter on the griddle and spread it in a circular motion to form a thin pancake or cheela.
  5. Cook for 2-3 minutes, or until the bottom turns golden brown. Flip and cook the other side until golden brown as well.
  6. Repeat the above step with the remaining batter.
  7. Serve hot with mint chutney or yogurt.
