Oats Upma Recipe

Oats Upma is a nutritious and delicious twist on the traditional South Indian breakfast dish, Upma. Packed with fibre and essential nutrients, it makes for a wholesome start to your day. Here's a simple and quick recipe to prepare this healthy meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 carrot, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup green peas
  • 2 green chilies, chopped
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 tsp urad dal
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil

Directions:

  1. Dry roast the oats in a pan on medium heat until they turn slightly golden and emit a nutty aroma. Set aside.
  2. Heat 1 tbsp oil in the same pan. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and 1 tsp urad dal, frying until the dal turns golden brown.
  3. Add chopped onions and 2 chopped green chilies. Cook until the onions become translucent.
  4. Add 1 finely chopped carrot and 1/4 cup green peas, stirring for a few minutes.
  5. Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and salt to taste. Pour in 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
  6. Stir in the roasted oats, mixing well. Cover and cook on low heat until the oats are soft and the water is absorbed.
  7. Oats Upma is ready to be served hot!
