Oats Upma Recipe
Oats Upma is a nutritious and delicious twist on the traditional South Indian breakfast dish, Upma. Packed with fibre and essential nutrients, it makes for a wholesome start to your day. Here's a simple and quick recipe to prepare this healthy meal.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup rolled oats
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup green peas
- 2 green chilies, chopped
- 1 tsp mustard seeds
- 1 tsp cumin seeds
- 1 tsp urad dal
- 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 cups water
- 1 tbsp vegetable oil
Directions:
- Dry roast the oats in a pan on medium heat until they turn slightly golden and emit a nutty aroma. Set aside.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in the same pan. Add 1 tsp mustard seeds and let them splutter. Add 1 tsp cumin seeds and 1 tsp urad dal, frying until the dal turns golden brown.
- Add chopped onions and 2 chopped green chilies. Cook until the onions become translucent.
- Add 1 finely chopped carrot and 1/4 cup green peas, stirring for a few minutes.
- Add 1/4 tsp turmeric powder and salt to taste. Pour in 2 cups of water and bring it to a boil.
- Stir in the roasted oats, mixing well. Cover and cook on low heat until the oats are soft and the water is absorbed.
