Sourdough French Toast Recipe

Sourdough bread is delicious and makes a great breakfast choice. If you happen to have some stale sourdough bread, don't throw it away! You can easily turn it into a tangy and sweet French toast. This recipe is perfect for breakfast, brunch, or even a dessert.

Ingredients:

  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup of milk
  • 1/2 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon
  • 4-6 slices of stale sourdough bread (1/2 – 1 inch thick)
  • 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter

Directions:

  1. Whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a mixing bowl.
  2. Add slices of sourdough bread to the bowl and allow them to soak for around 5 minutes. Flip the bread slices halfway to make sure both sides are soaked.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and melt a tablespoon of butter.
  4. Carefully place the soaked bread onto the skillet, and cook each side for around 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.
  5. Repeat the process for each slice of bread, adding more butter to the skillet as needed.
  6. Top your French toast with your favorite toppings, such as maple syrup, fresh fruit, whipped cream, or chocolate sauce.
  7. Enjoy your delicious and tangy sourdough French toast!
