Sourdough bread is a versatile bread choice that tastes great whether it's for a simple breakfast of buttered toast or for sandwiches. If you have some stale sourdough bread, no need to discard it as you can turn it into delicious French toast.
Ingredients:
- 4 slices stale sourdough bread
- 2 eggs
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tbsp butter
- Maple syrup, to serve
- Fresh fruit or lemon curd or crème fraîche or hot fudge sauce or caramel sauce or whipped cream, to serve (optional)
Directions:
- In a bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and cinnamon until well combined.
- Place the stale sourdough bread slices in the bowl and let them soak for about 2-3 minutes, flipping the slices halfway through so each side absorbs the custard mixture.
- Melt butter in a non-stick skillet over medium heat.
- Place the soaked bread slices on the skillet and cook until each side is golden brown, about 2-3 minutes per side.
- Serve with maple syrup or any of the suggested toppings.
