Recipe 2: Homemade Dumplings Filled with Pork and Chives

Chef Jonathan Kung also shares a classic dumpling recipe that's both simple and delicious. This pork and chive filling is a popular choice in China and the U.S. because it's easy to fold without the wrapper ripping. This recipe is perfect for beginners looking to learn how to make dumplings.

Ingredients:

  • 1 package dumpling wrappers
  • 1 pound ground pork
  • 1/2 cup chopped chives
  • 3 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, grated
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • Cornstarch for dusting

Directions:

  1. In a bowl, mix the ground pork, chives, soy sauce, sesame oil, ginger, garlic, salt, and black pepper until well combined.
  2. To fill the dumplings, place a spoonful of the pork mixture in the center of a dumpling wrapper. Fold the wrapper in half, making sure to seal the edges tightly.
  3. To cook the dumplings, bring a pot of water to a boil. Add the dumplings and let them cook for 5-7 minutes or until they float to the top. Drain and set aside.
  4. In a pan, heat up a tablespoon of oil. Add the dumplings to the pan and let them fry for 2-3 minutes until the bottoms are golden brown.
  5. Serve hot with soy sauce and enjoy!
