Al-Man'ouché: A Traditional Lebanese Breakfast Pastry
Al-man'ouché is a beloved traditional Lebanese breakfast pastry that has been recently added to the UNESCO Intangible Cultural Heritage list. This delicious dish is seasoned with olive oil and traditional spices, and its aroma wafts through the streets of Lebanon each morning.
Ingredients:
- 2 cups of flour
- 1 teaspoon of salt
- 1 teaspoon of sugar
- 1 tablespoon of yeast
- 1/2 cup of lukewarm water
- 1/4 cup of olive oil
- 1/2 cup of za'atar
Directions:
- Mix the flour, salt, sugar, and yeast in a large bowl.
- Add the lukewarm water and olive oil, and knead the dough until it's smooth.
- Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let the dough rise for 1 hour.
- Preheat the oven to 450°F.
- Divide the dough into small balls and flatten them into circles.
- Spread the za'atar on top of the dough circles and bake them in the oven for 5-10 minutes, or until the crust is crispy and golden.
